This is not a new sales concept. As has been illuded to in previous comments, capacitors will help reduce "demand" by lowering amperage which can help with energy bills if you are on a demand or power factor-based rate. Capacitors can also help in other ways with respect to the capacity of an internal electrical system. But, I cannot find anyone who can scientifically confirm that capacitors lower energy usage. An end use electrical device when operating is going to use whatever energy is required based upon its initial design, its operational loading, and current condition. Otherwise, everyone would have been doing this for years.

Too bad you did not due your due diligence before writing this article.

Capacitance to correct power factor is a good thing when used in Commercial and Industrial accounts where the C&I meters can measure PF. A residential meter on the side of a house is a watt hour meter and does not measure power factor. Therefore while correcting power factor for the home, it does not directly save anything on the individual's monthly bill. As far as spikes, Transient Variable Surge Suppression equipment (TVSS) when sold to protect equipment is a reasonable investment. TVSS DOES NOT SAVE ENERGY!

TOO BAD YOU DID NOT CALL YOUR LOCAL POWER COMPANY TO ASK ABOUT THE CLAIMS MADE! THEY ARE JUST NOT TRUE!

Did you know that while utilizing capacitors are a good idea that our present electrical system was already outdated by 1918 and the same man who gave us an A.C. system already was at work at making a system that would be world wide. A person would be able to tap into that electricity from anywhere on the globe. All that would have been needed was a device that the person would own while the generating systems would be three large towers that would not only generate electricity but also would allow communication and video. He was also the original inventor of radio. The patent awarded after his death. I am sorry you say you were not taught this in school?
