Alabama recieves $1.66 for every dollar it sends to the federal treasury. It is essentially a welfare state kept afloat by the US taxpayer. By contrast MI recieves about $0.96 for every dollar sent to the federal government. No midwestern industrial state is in the top 50% for federal spending.

Mr. Shelby seems to believe that Alabama is the only state in the Union. Wasn't he the driving force behind the $253 million incentive package to Mercedes? Alabama tax payers ended up paying $180,000 plus per job as pure incentive.

Loan now or pay later. If the Auto Industry doesn't get the loan needed, the U.S. Pension Guarantee Fund will be picking up hundreds of thousands of retirees, spouses, and widowed spouses pensions.

John Orth, I hope you continue to buy auto's from any of the big three.

It seems to me that the problem is that ALL their expenses are too high. Labor, management .. all. If they cut these two areas to the same level their competition is ... there is no reason they cannot compete.

If politicians solve this problem in any other way except ecomomic .... I'll never buy another auto from the big three.
